Today is an off day so I thought I would start unpacking some more of Grandmother Harris's belongings and I came across what is left of her beautiful Homer Laughlin Blue Willow China. They are so mesmerizing! I've been sitting here for an hour now inspecting every single piece.

A spot of glue & I will be like new

There are chips and nips here and there, and even a broken handle. But a bit of super glue should fix the handle. As for the chips and nips, I find beauty in them regardless...

Put me on a mantle & I shall be lovely again

I have no clue how many pieces are apart of this collection, so I think I will just hunt for the proper pattern and see what I come up with. There are so many versions out there, but you have to pay close attention to the details. Some are similar and some are perfect matches.

One more would be perfecto!

I'm going to clean them up and find them a good home. Oh how I need a china cabinet, but the hunt continues. Until then, as long as they are no longer packed away, I shall enjoy them no matter what. Though I look forward to the day I have a house and I can share them the way Trina at A Country Farmhouse shares hers...

Big Mama's Silverware

 3 years ago, my beloved Big Mama, (an affectionate alternate name for Grandma Harris), passed away and it broke me heart... I've come along way since then and am now able to handle her beautiful possessions bequeathed to me.

Upon arriving home after her funeral, I kept her belongs packed away until last year when I moved into my first apartment.

I now feel comfortable enough to embrace them and to share them here with you, my new found friends.

These were Big Mama's 1847 Rogers Bros Heritage Collection silverware. When we were dividing her belongs amongst the family, I mostly received her cooking sets because that was a passion she and I shared.

I wish that I had taken photographs of their condition prior to their cleaning. I suppose in her tender age and with her health problems, they were no longer needed. Though, if you could imagine silverware being burned, then that's the best interpretation I could give.

I've never polished silverware before so I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I started this project, but I'm glad that I did.

As I set out to restore each piece, I allowed myself to wonder about their history with Big Mama.
Since she is no longer with us, there is no one to ask who can give me the true details I long for.

To even speak her name sometimes brings a look of loneliness over my father's face so I know to ask him would be too much.

There is my aunt, but we are not close to that side of the family, though I hoped that with Big Mama's passing we all would be closer but my many attempts to stay in touch were never reciprocated so I gave up.

I wonder if they were a wedding gift... Big Mama was married 3 times. Her first husband was abusive and thankfully she left.

Her second husband was my biological grandfather, whom I never really knew, their marriage lasted long enough for my father and aunt to be born, then they parted ways.

But her third and final marriage was the one.

She married my Grandfather Shot, why the nickname Shot? I have no clue but truest me, all us grandkids adored him. Real grandfather or not. They actually married once before and divorced because Granddaddy had a drinking problem I believe and Big Mama left him until he straighten up.

I guess realizing a real treasure he got himself together and asked for her hand in marriage, again.

I thought it would be lovely to house the silverware...

I wonder if she used them for her Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners... With the family split, there were never any big family gathers for holiday dinners with Big Mama & Granddaddy. I wish there had been, maybe then I would have more memories with them both and with this lovely silverware.

 But that is alright, I shall make my own memories with them... Happy Saturday!

Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Baby Glue Gone Went...

... Oh Where, Oh Where Can It Possibly Be?

Hi Everyone!!! It's good to be back at the desk, preparing a new blog. I've been a little drained and a little uninspired, but today is different!

With this day all to myself, not only do I feel energized, but I'm ready to tackle my overloaded to-do-list. We've all been there haven't we? We have the best intentions to start to knock everything out in one day and the next thing you know it's months later and nothing is completely 100 % finished.

How does that happen?

Well it does not matter because today is THE day!!! If only I could find my darn glue gun!!! It will come to me eventually, so with that said: NEXT!!!!

Today's To Do List:

1) Finish spray painting my chalk board/cord board

2) Sand down the sweet chair I found by the dumpster & prep for priming

3) Organize my sewing table/ desk

4) Finish chalkboard spray painting my new Dollar Tree swing top jars

5) Go through old magazines for collage book

6) Finish laundry

7) Organize coupons

8) Chalkboard spray paint old pickle jar and finally put it to use

9) Hang up cooking utensils on the wall for better organization

10) Relax and watch some old movies

Well not to bad if I may say so myself, still some more things to knock off but I feel I'm off to a great start.

My Blueberry Delight

How sweet...

     Hiya Everyone!!! Wow, it's been so long since I've blogged that I almost forgot I owned one! I've been so consumed with work and fixing up the apartment that I've been so neglectful.

Well that's all about to come to an end! With the help of my awesome aunt, I now have a digital camera to finally show you all my little adventures and creations. Today we'll start with my love for blueberries and their partnership with biscuits.

    

     It all started one day about 4 or 5 years ago, I was in my local grocery store shopping when I came upon a can of rolled blueberry biscuits. I was delighted when I took my first bite, sweet and so blueberry!!!

But sadly my sweet blueberry companions were discontinued. I searched other stores but no my loves were not to be found, there was nothing more for me to do but mourn their lost. See in those days I cooked, but nothing too fancy, so it never acquired to me to just bake my own. Boy am I happy that I've out grown that!!

I searched for the perfect recipe and went to work!! But that first attempt was a major disaster, plus afterwards I lost my perfect recipe. So after becoming a little discouraged, a stroll threw the farmer's market renewed my quest! Though I lost my perfect recipe, I pieced a few things together from other recipes and went to work!

(Aww... baking mix, sugar, milk, lemon peelings, orange peeling and of course, BLUEBERRIES)

(It all goes a long way)

(I'm still getting the hang of rolling out doughs, but practice makes perfect)

(My grammie was kind enough to let me use her biscuit cutter, she's had it for years & years)

Blueberry Biscuit Delight



3 cups baking mix

1 cup milk

1 pint fresh blueberrues

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1 teaspoon orange zest

1/2 cup sugar

Combine baking mix, milk, sugar in large bowl. Gently add blueberries, lemon and orange zest. Shape into ball and knead 3 to 4 times. Roll out to 1/2 ince thickness. Cut out with bisciut cutter and bake 11 to 13 minutes at 450 degrees. Drizzle with honey if desired.

Happy Fall...

I so love the way they decorated with the little pumpkins

So it's beginning to look a lot  like FALL!!!!!  I so love this time of the year, something about seeing the lovely trees and beautiful fall decorations warms my soul.

It also helps that I'm a Thanksgiving baby!!!

Now that I've been in my apartment for a month and 4 days, I think its time I started bringing out the fall decorations! I have two lovely apothecary jars that I purchased at Wal-Mart on clearance at $7 each, I know too lucky, I'm going to fill them with some acorns.

I so wish I had a camera to share everything, including the 2 cute bistro style chairs I got at a local yard sale for a whooping 2 BUCKS!!! Yes, yes, I am the Queen Of Deals and I wear my crown proudly:)

After work yesterday I was able to stop buy Wal-mart again just to give their fall inventory a glance.

 Of course I ended up buying something but it was worth it, they have these very lovely artificial bouquets selling for $5. I got a single bunch for this lovely green vase I purchased at a local thrift store for $2. I was also able to checkout their paint section.

I think I'm going to try their Better Homes & Garden paints for the walls, I would love to use my original plan and go with paint by Behr, but I don't have the transportation. You have to make the best out of every situation!!! Well back to the drawing board!!!

Georgia Peaches on my mind

Today I have the morning to myself, which is very rare because I mostly work during the morning. But I intend to enjoy every bit of this morning until I go to work this evening.

Since I work at a grocery store, I often come across the most awesome deals.

My awesome deal yesterday?

Fresh Georgia Peaches!!!

Now being as I myself am a born and raised in Georgia, Georgia Peach, it safe to say that I absolutely looooooovvveee PEACHES!!!! I love their softness, their sweetness and I especially love to cook with them!

    

     Last year I was determined to teach myself how to make Homemade Peach Cobbler, but since it was a cobbler for Thanksgiving all the lovely peaches were out of season. I would never use canned peaches, only fresh or frozen,but OMG how expensive the frozen are!! $4.99 a bag at my grocery store, even with my employee discount, I was still looking at spending $3.78 a bag.

The bargain shopper inside of me could only agree that we had no choice, we needed them, so we paid for them. The cobbler was great but after spending well over $10 for the peaches alone PLUS the other ingredients for a grand total of $25, I decided that as soon as this beautiful fruit was back in season I was going to freeze my own!!!

After combing the internet for an easy way to freeze them I came across what I was looking for at PickYourOwn.org. The steps look so simple, so here's hoping that I'm correct and they are. I have to pick up a few more items and maybe some more peaches but I'll share my adventure as soon as I'm done. Be blessed everyone!
