New Logos...

For my baking business!!!

A friend and myself started a baking business this year called, K & T Sweet Eats.

Basically, we make everything from scratch and try to add new eats each week.

Though this is not my true calling, it is still a great passion of mine and I love baking so why not share and make a profit.

I recently hired a good friend of mine to design our official logos and he came up
with 2 great concepts so I decided to use both.

Here they are:
So us!!!!

I love this one too!!!!

Like So Many Before Me...

I have decided to do the impossible...

Reupholster a CHAIR!!!!!

Isn't She Lovely?

Well it's not too imposeible and the chair is FREE!

Yes, FREE!!!!!!

It all started early one morning on my way to work, as I was driving along I noticed a living room armchair beside the dumpster.

It was calling my name.

But since I was already late for work, I continued right on. Thinking to myself that if it's meant for me then it would be there after my 8 hour shift.

So on I went.

Well it turns out that it was meant to be mine, as soon as I returned home I noticed that it was still there patiently waiting for me to bring it home.

I had to have a little help getting it into my house, so I enliseted my roommate's boyfriend.

We planted my new lovely in the living room right next to my workstation.

At this very moment I'm washing the cushion cover and I have to disinfect the outside before I will even start the project of taking her apart very carefully.

Hopefully tomorrow I can stop at Hobby lobby and look over some fabric and get an idea of how I want her to look.

Wish me luck, I have the feeling I'm going to need it...

Designing Woman...

A Donna Karan sketch

When I was a little girl, I dreamt that I would become a chef.

I loved any and everything that dealt with cooking. I especially loved being in the kitchen with my grandmothers. I would sit on my little barbie chair and watch as they fluttered about, measuring and mixing away.

Watching them cook, made me long for the day I would be old enough to get behind a stove and whip up something delicious.

Then, I discovered fashion design!

See growing up with 4 boys in the house, there was nothing girlie about me. I didn't read fashion magazines, I didn't care about keeping up with the "latest fashion", and I had no idea who Coco Chanel was... the horror!

What I do know is that when I drew my first outfit, something just seemed to click in place!
I knew that very instant that I wanted to design clothes & sew them myself for the rest of my life.

Though my dream is coming along slowly, I'm not giving up!

After I take my final GED test, mathematics suck, the new journey to get into a fashion design school will begin, of course after I ace the ACTs!!!!

It helps to stay positive!

SCAD-Atlanta... My dream college!

4 designs from 2 of my collections... I soooo need sewing lessons!!!

Baby on my mind...

Too adorable...

It's happening all around me, AGAIN!

Friends and friends of friends are getting pregnant!!!

I'm happy for everyone, but... I long for my own child, and at the age of 27 and single and so NOT mingling... I feel a little left out.

This year BOTH of my best friends welcomed baby girls, Jade & Trinity (who should be here next week hopefully) and I am happy for them but at the same time I feel like the odd non-pregnant woman out.

For a long time I didn't want children.

After helping my single mom raise my 4 younger brother, I was a bit... tired I guess would be the word. I felt as if I had done enough parenting to last 5 couples... until I became older and I started to long for marriage and babies.

It sneaks up on you, just when you think you have life figured out something just poofs into your mind and the next thing you know, your baby crazy.

So far I know 4 women who are expecting and since I am close with them all, it means I shall be close with their lovely additions as well... but it's not the same...

I guess the only thing I can do is focus on work, get into college, bust my butt to graduate, and keep my fingers crossed that Mr. Right will appear when it is time for him to...

To my future life (hubby & all)... I'm waiting oh so patiently to meet you...

Here are some of the beauties I saw:

Vintage Knobs

Antique Furniture, say hi Ms. J!
Beautiful Floral Pieces

Stalking a Victorian House...

Who remembers the old Victorian house I coveted?

Well waaaay back last year, I found the most beautiful diamond in the rough I had ever seen.
It was old and in need of much care.
My precious...
Of course I immediately started to research about this lovely.

I wanted as much information as possible.

Low and behold, it turns out that I was slightly familiar with this house already.

When I was younger, I attended a summer camp that was created inside of a lovely craftsman style home I believe, RIGHT across from my lovely here.

I LOVE front/back porches... I wander if it's a Southern thing...

I guess this house has been in the back of my mind, since we only passed it EVERY morning on our way to the camp.

Who knew huh?
Well in June of this year, I was disappointed to learn that my lovely was no longer on the market.

Oh how I mourned.

But I moved on and started to research others homes, though nothing compared to true beauty... Until about 3 days ago, I was hit with wave of thought to go online and try my best to find any new info on my lovely house...

I found the PERFECT site and it gave me the most wonderful news... The house is still available, only the listing expired and the owner has yet to place it back on the market...

Sweet from the front & the back...
 OH HAPPY DAY...

Dinner and an old Black & White Movie...

Mark of the Vampire (1935)

I'm so excited!

October is here and that means it's time for old horror movies on TCM. Though a great variety will be showcased throughout October, I'm looking forward to the movies that will be on all day on Halloween. My absolute fav is the movie, Mark of the Vampire.

I fell in love with this movie 2 years ago.

Horror icon, Bela Lugosi, plays Count Mora and he is joined by the hypnotic beauty Luna Mora, played by Carroll Borland.

My grandmother and I are planning a simple dinner: Subs & Wings, then we will collapse in front of the TV and watch what ever comes on until..... well until she or myself falls asleep I guess.

Oh the anticipation...

Homer Laughlin China

I adore the pattern & its lovely detailing...
It's such a lovely and peaceful day that I just HAD to come and share it with everyone!
Homer Laughlin Blue Willow China
Today is an off day so I thought I would start unpacking some more of Grandmother Harris's belongings and I came across what is left of her beautiful Homer Laughlin Blue Willow China. They are so mesmerizing! I've been sitting here for an hour now inspecting every single piece.

A spot of glue & I will be like new
There are chips and nips here and there, and even a broken handle. But a bit of super glue should fix the handle. As for the chips and nips, I find beauty in them regardless...

Put me on a mantle & I shall be lovely again
I have no clue how many pieces are apart of this collection, so I think I will just hunt for the proper pattern and see what I come up with. There are so many versions out there, but you have to pay close attention to the details. Some are similar and some are perfect matches.

One more would be perfecto!
I'm going to clean them up and find them a good home. Oh how I need a china cabinet, but the hunt continues. Until then, as long as they are no longer packed away, I shall enjoy them no matter what. Though I look forward to the day I have a house and I can share them the way Trina at A Country Farmhouse shares hers...

So happy to be out of the box & into the light...
Enjoy your Friday Everyone!

Big Mama's Silverware

3 years ago, my beloved Big Mama, (an affectionate alternate name for Grandma Harris), passed away and it broke me heart... I've come along way since then and am now able to handle her beautiful possessions bequeathed to me.

Upon arriving home after her funeral, I kept her belongs packed away until last year when I moved into my first apartment.

I now feel comfortable enough to embrace them and to share them here with you, my new found friends.

These were Big Mama's 1847 Rogers Bros Heritage Collection silverware. When we were dividing her belongs amongst the family, I mostly received her cooking sets because that was a passion she and I shared.
1847 Rogers Bros Heritage...
I wish that I had taken photographs of their condition prior to their cleaning. I suppose in her tender age and with her health problems, they were no longer needed. Though, if you could imagine silverware being burned, then that's the best interpretation I could give.

I've never polished silverware before so I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I started this project, but I'm glad that I did.

As I set out to restore each piece, I allowed myself to wonder about their history with Big Mama.
Since she is no longer with us, there is no one to ask who can give me the true details I long for.

To even speak her name sometimes brings a look of loneliness over my father's face so I know to ask him would be too much.

There is my aunt, but we are not close to that side of the family, though I hoped that with Big Mama's passing we all would be closer but my many attempts to stay in touch were never reciprocated so I gave up.
Sorry for the glare, I was trying to capture the
floral detail on their handles...

I wonder if they were a wedding gift... Big Mama was married 3 times. Her first husband was abusive and thankfully she left.
Her second husband was my biological grandfather, whom I never really knew, their marriage lasted long enough for my father and aunt to be born, then they parted ways.

But her third and final marriage was the one.

She married my Grandfather Shot, why the nickname Shot? I have no clue but truest me, all us grandkids adored him. Real grandfather or not. They actually married once before and divorced because Granddaddy had a drinking problem I believe and Big Mama left him until he straighten up.

I guess realizing a real treasure he got himself together and asked for her hand in marriage, again.
Remember my cute find from the thrift store here?
I thought it would be lovely to house the silverware...
I wonder if she used them for her Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners... With the family split, there were never any big family gathers for holiday dinners with Big Mama & Granddaddy. I wish there had been, maybe then I would have more memories with them both and with this lovely silverware.

Can you see all of my hard work to restore them?
But that is alright, I shall make my own memories with them... Happy Saturday!

Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Baby Glue Gone Went...

... Oh Where, Oh Where Can It Possibly Be?

Hi Everyone!!! It's good to be back at the desk, preparing a new blog. I've been a little drained and a little uninspired, but today is different!

With this day all to myself, not only do I feel energized, but I'm ready to tackle my overloaded to-do-list. We've all been there haven't we? We have the best intentions to start to knock everything out in one day and the next thing you know it's months later and nothing is completely 100 % finished.

How does that happen?
Well it does not matter because today is THE day!!! If only I could find my darn glue gun!!! It will come to me eventually, so with that said: NEXT!!!!

Today's To Do List:
1) Finish spray painting my chalk board/cord board

2) Sand down the sweet chair I found by the dumpster & prep for priming

3) Organize my sewing table/ desk

4) Finish chalkboard spray painting my new Dollar Tree swing top jars

5) Go through old magazines for collage book

6) Finish laundry

7) Organize coupons

8) Chalkboard spray paint old pickle jar and finally put it to use

9) Hang up cooking utensils on the wall for better organization

10) Relax and watch some old movies

Well not to bad if I may say so myself, still some more things to knock off but I feel I'm off to a great start.
